This was my degree project from Konstfack univeristy of arts, crafts and design, displayed at Konstfack’s spring exhibition 2022. My degree project is a visual exploration of the links and correlations between creativity and mental illness. It consists of a small collection of fanzines and artworks created through different printing methods. Inspired by the depressed artist stereotype and the mad genius trope, I experiment with different methods to visualise the subject through illustration and text. I was awarded the schools graphics scolarship for the project.
”Nonsens”/”Nonsense” is a collection of things that have been said to me or others about mental health, and things the unwell brain can try to convince oneself.
In ”Spår”/”Traces” I’ve tried to visualize the emptiness and heavy imprint that is left after something, or someone.
”Mönster”/”Patterns” represents the confusion and frustration of being unable to explain how you feel, not finding the words or ways to describe it.
”Historier”/”Histories” is a collection of etchings, inspired by stories of famous and historical artists and their experiences with or connections to mental illness.
”En panikattack”/”A panic attack” is a somewhat literal pop-up book which illustrates the experience of having a panic attack.
”Minnesarkiv” /”Memory archive” is a small collection of handcarved stamps describing events and memories from my life.
”Ett ångestbrus”/”Anxiety blur” is inspired by feelings that seem physical, like the prickly, stinging feeling in the chest that can be felt when hurt, or headaces that feel like electric pulses.
